Culture and curry in CambridgeThis year, my boyfriend Luke and I have set ourselves a challenge – any time one of us gets a £2 coin, we set it aside in a jar as part of our ‘exploring our own country’ fund. As of April, we have had enough in the jar to devote one weekend a month to discovering a new city or destination in England. This year, my boyfriend Luke and I have set ourselves a challenge – any time one of us gets a £2 coin, we set it aside in a jar as part of our ‘exploring our own country’ fund. As of April, we have had enough in the jar to devote one weekend a month to discovering a new city or destination in England.Last weekend was all about Cambridge. As it happened, Luke’s high school friend Ben was on a business trip in town and staying at the Hilton Cambridge on Friday night. We booked a room in the hotel and Ben changed his train time so that he could spend Saturday walking around exploring with us. Ben met us at the hotel’s reception and took us on a picturesque stroll through Cambridge. Almost immediately, it is quite clear that the town’s existence is largely due to the 800 year old, world-famous University. All of the students were still around, giving the town a great buzz. Walking down one of the main streets, Luke pointed out the contrast of the modern high-street shop signs sticking out from the facades of buildings that were clearly over 700 years old. It made for a bizarre juxtaposition to the beauty and timelessness of the college grounds. We wandered past St John’s College and I stopped to take a few pictures of this stunning building and its perfectly manicured lawns. The boys decided they fancied a Thai curry for dinner and I suddenly remembered that a colleague of mine had recommended The Wrestlers pub in Cambridge for great beer and delicious curry. We headed down Newmarket Road and found a table near the window. The food was top notch, the company was excellent and the three of us had a great time. Walking back to the Cambridge Hilton hotel, I thought about how much I liked this town and how excited I was to discover more of it the next day. Luckily , Cambridge did not disappoint... We’ve put it top of our list for a repeat visit!Source: Free Articles from ArticlesFactory.com
