Tamil Nadu is located in south India and is known as the land of magnificent temples.  The most famous temple in Tamil Nadu is Annamalaiyar Temple. Annamalaiyar Temple:

It is the most famous and the largest Temple in Tamil Nadu. Daily prayers are performed in this Temple for Lord Shiva. Thousands of people gather at this Temple during different religious ceremonies. The five elements, including land, fire, water and air are the prime natural elements known as Pancha Bhoota Stalas. This is one of the temples among those five temples of Pancha Bhoota Stalas, dedicated to Lord Shiva.

History

The history dates back to the 19th century, when huge gifts were given by the Chola King to this temple. After the downfall of the Mughal emperors, in 1760 the British captured this region. 

In 2002, the archaeological survey of India declared this temple as the heritage monument. The control of this Temple at that time was given to archaeological survey of India. Nowadays, the Hindu Religious and Endowment Board are controlling this temple.

The temple consists of a huge gopuram. The main entrance is through the eastern gopuram and it is 13 stories high and 66 meters tall. After you enter this temple, you will see a thousand pillared Mandapan with a huge water tank on the left.
