Florida is the 27th state of the United State of America and it shares its boundaries with Alabama, Georgia and most of the rest to the Atlantic Ocean. It is a peninsular state and is situated at the southeastern part of the country across the Mississippi river. Known for its tropical climate, Florida is otherwise known as the ‘Sunshine state' of the country. With a total population of about 18,328,500, this state is considered the fourth most populated state in Unites States.

The state is a porous limestone peninsula which is placed over bedrock called as the Florida Platform. This makes the state peppered with underwater caves and springs. The fresh water supply across the city is also plenty. A slow flowing river called The Everglades is the major geographical feature of the state. Earthquakes are very rare in Florida, but the state had its own minor tremors and shakes in the past. The most recent one was in the year of 2006 but with a very low Richter scale reading. The highest point of the state is at 345 feet above the sea level and is situated at the Britton Hill. Ironically this is also the lowest high point of the whole of United States.

Aptly named the ‘Sunshine State', Florida has true tropical and subtropical climate. The highest temperature ever recorded in Florida stands at 32 °C and has not exceeded that till date. Snow is very rare and the state has seen snow occasionally in its northern part. Winters are very short and the lowest temperature recorded was around 5 °C. Florida is known for its fall season specifically the fall foliage occurring at the end of November. More than the temperature, precipitation level determines the season of the state and has all four types of seasons.

Florida is known for the fauna it hosts and has pretty impressive wildlife. The bottlenose Dolphin, American alligators, Leatherback Turtles, the Florida Panther, Snail Kite, whooping Cranes are some of the animals and birds to look out for while travelling across the state. Florida is known as the wintering location for the birds from the northern states. The population of Red imported fire ants is huge in the state and these are the most aggressive species of ants with a very painful sting.

Some of the popular hotels like La Florida, Miami Hotel etc offer various tours across the state to make your stay enjoyable and memorable. These tours include the Florida Carriage tour when one is taken across in carriages and the Segways Tour where individual carrier Segways are provided to visit the places of interest at leisure. The most famous of these tours are the walking tours of the ten cities of the Florida where the guide takes the tourist across the state by foot. The city of Miami has the best night life and world's finest beaches. While the kids will be more interested in the Disney world, for the astronomically inclined, the state has the Kennedy Space center. Everglades has pretty large swamp where one can spot Alligators.
