If you're headed out to Las Vegas for the New Year's holidays,
definitely consider taking a Grand Canyon bus tour. Enjoying the Las Vegas Strip is your top priority. But I find that many visitors like to take a break from celebrating by taking a trip to the Canyon. You'll have to choose between going to the West Rim or the South Rim. The former is closest and requires a 2.5-hour drive while the later is farthest and takes 5.5-hours to reach. West vs SouthWhich rim should you visit? They are both great, you just have to decide what you want to see. Let's start with the West Rim. That is the best pick if you want an adventurous trip. For example, the Grand Canyon Skywalk is at the West Rim. That is the world famous glass bridge you can walk on past the edge of the canyon. You could also opt for a helicopter ride to the canyon floor where you hop on a raft and float down the Colorado River. I must point out that helicopter rides to the bottom are only available at the West Rim and they can be bundled into your bus tour package. The South RimThe South Rim is often called the Official Grand Canyon. It is home to many of the notable landmarks seen in photographs of the Grand Canyon. Most bus tour companies will let you add a helicopter ride from the South Rim to the North Rim and back (highly recommended). The holidays are a busy time for bus tours in the Grand Canyon. It's for this reason that I recommend that you book your coach trip in advance. Plan to get them at least 48 hours before the tour date. You might be concerned about getting seats early because of the chance of changing your plans. It's really no problem. Just cancel 24 hours ahead of your departure time and you should be okay as long as you book with a reputable tour operator. You might even be able to change you tour to another day without penalty if it becomes necessary. Best PricesYou'll find the best price on bus tours to the Grand Canyon on the internet. Don't worry about booking your seats online, because it is very safe now. Travel sites follow procedures that process transactions securely so your data is protected. I've never had a problem from booking tours online. Remember, it is cold in the Grand Canyon during the winter, so dress in warm clothes. I recommend wearing a heavy jacket, gloves, a hat and good shoes. The elevation at the South Rim is 7000 feet so it is much colder there than at the West Rim. To be on the safe side, follow the weather reports the day before your tour so you can dress appropriately. To Wrap UpThe New Year's holiday in Las Vegas is a special time. There is a lot of partying and excitement. Sometime during your stay, however, you'll probably want to get off The Strip, and that's when a bus tour to the Grand Canyon makes a lot of sense. Keep in mind the bus tours last all day. Don't forget about the cold weather at the canyon and forget to take warm clothes. You will be glad you decided to take the tour once you see all the spectacular natural scenery there is to enjoy.
