Vegas is the perfect setting for a festive New Year's celebration. But if you really want to make it a trip to remember, consider going on a day trip to the Grand Canyon.

That's right, the Grand Canyon, one of America's most popular National Parks.

I know it sounds odd at first but in actuality it's very realistic. See, the National Park is just 120 miles away from Vegas, making it one of Sin City's most sought after things to do.

So, how do you get to the Canyon from Vegas?

Well, there are numerous ways, but the most popular include bus tours, airplane flights and helicopter rides. In addition, there are other adventures such as Jeep, ATV, and walking tours. But for the purpose of this article, we'll stick to the top 3.

Bus tours go to the West Rim and the South Rim. The Grand Canyon Skywalk is at the West Rim and it is a shorter ride to get there. The South Rim is the farthest (some 277 miles east), but it's the place to go for natural scenic beauty. Buses depart once daily for the tours and they only stop in one place, which is the Hoover Dam where you can take photos.

Airplane tours get you to the West Rim in 30 minutes and the South Rim in 60. I'm partial to these trips especially when I'm on a budget and have to get to the Canyon fast. I also prefer them when it comes to getting to the South Rim. That way it will only take you an hour to get there. If you go by bus, be prepared for a long trip because it takes 5 ? hours just to get to the rim when you go by motor coach.

Next we have the helicopter tours. These only go to the West Rim because the South is too far away. You can stay in the air during the tour or land at the canyon and enjoy the many fun things to do there. One of the tours flies you right to the bottom of the canyon where a champagne lunch awaits you. Riding down to the bottom of the canyon in a helicopter is an exciting experience you'll never forget.

One nice thing about tours to the Grand Canyon is they are all-inclusive. All your expenses are bundled into one price so you don't have to pay for lunch on the landing tours, Park fees, fuel surcharges, or transportation to and from your hotel. So once you buy your seats, you won't face unexpected charges.

It gets cold in Vegas in the winter so It will be cold in the canyon too around New Year's. Heed this and dress for temperatures that could reach freezing. The nice thing is the day does heat up as time goes on but there's not guarantee that it will so dress accordingly. So bring along a jacket. And if you can, make sure to bring a hat and gloves.

By buying your tour seats online, you will get the best price. The lowest prices are always online. Just don't delegate too much time to save a few bucks. Just save time and go online to start with. When you go right to the tour operator's website, you can get your tickets quickly, easily, and at the most competitive rate.
