Paris is the capital of France and is also known as “the city of lights.” It is also considered to be a fashion capital and one of the most romantic places in the world. It is a one of the most renowned business and culture centers of the world. Paris has a very rich history. The many historical monuments which testify the glory of France have made Paris a very popular tourist destination. Paris is a cosmopolitan city as people from all over the world reside there and therefore, it has a diverse cultural environment.

Geographically, Paris is situated in northern France, at the heart of the Paris Region. It is situated on the river Seine. It is the most densely populated city of France and also one of the most populous areas in Europe. Paris includes two islands, the Île Saint-Louis and the larger Île de la Cite, which are the oldest parts of the city. The population of Paris is approximately 2.2 million which is around 3.6% of the total French population.

The climate of Paris is very nice and soothing. It is really warm during summers and gets very chilly in winters. Snow-fall is not much though. Paris is known for its sudden rainfall. Normally, the rainfall is moderate and it rains throughout the year.

Paris attracts a lot of tourists every year. The museums and historical monuments of Paris are among its highest rated attractions. These are the places which one should not miss while they are in Paris:

The most important and most prized museum of the city is the Louvre. It is by far the world's most visited art museum as it welcomes almost 8 million visitors every year. This museum displays ‘Mona Lisa', one of the most famous painting of the world by Leonardo da Vinci. It also displays many Egyptian pieces of art.

Another major tourist attraction of Paris is the famous Eiffel tower. It is a global icon for France and one of the most renowned structures in the world. It is the tallest building in Paris. Million of people come to visit the Eiffel Tower every year, making it the world's most visited monument. The tower has 3 levels. There are stairs and lifts to climb to the first and the second levels. The third level is only accessible by lifts. There are restaurants on both the first and the second levels.

Another must visit place while in Paris is the Notre-Dame. It is a famous religious building which is a masterpiece of gothic architecture.

While in Paris, you can also visit the Sun-King palace “Chateau de Versailles” in Versailles, which is half an hour by train from Paris.

The Pantheon is a temple built in late 18th century in the neo-classical style. This church has gothic and renaissance elements. It plays host to the remains of the great French men.

Les Invalides is a major dome in Paris. It is a hospital founded in 1670 by the King Louis XVI for his invalid soldiers. This major dome hosts the great Napoleon's ashes.
