Take a summer holiday to the French Alps and play golf on one of Europe's most beautiful 18-hole courses with breath-taking views across the Méribel Valley.
Imagine playing golf on a course set against a back drop of the stunning French Alps, of walking along fairways that wind their way along mountain fields and pine forests and watching your ball soar into clear blue sky with views over the Saulire peaks.
Most people have heard of, and many even skied, the stunning Méribel area of the French Alps. But did you know it was also the location for one of Europe’s most beautiful 18-hole golf courses, making it the perfect place for a summer French Alps holiday for golf enthusiasts?
The Course
Set beside the Altiport in Méribel, the course is challenging and hilly, starting at 1,565 meters and climbing to 1,850 meters, although golfers will be pleased to know that the altitude actually helps the ball go further with each swing.
With a par of 71 over its 5,538 meter length, the bunkers, water cascades and lakes which scatter the course’s length, make this an exciting challenging game for golfers of all levels.
Who Can Play
The Méribel course is open to members and non-members and the friendly, English-speaking staff members at the clubhouse are as welcoming to those visiting for a brief French Alps holiday, as they are to their regulars.
There is no minimum handicap for the course and children are welcome so it’s a great place to try a round with the whole family: there is even a reduction in price for the under 20s and over 70s.
What’s on Offer
The club provides golf clubs for rental, if they are needed, as well as buggies and trolleys. My advice would be to rent a golf buggy unless you are extremely fit as the course is long and rises by more than 3,000 meters over its length.
Those wanting to warm up or practice their swing before their round can use the free practice area, which includes a putting green, bunker and chipping area and driving range.
Stop off for a quick bite at the 9th hole and enjoy the stunning panoramic views across the Méribel Valley.
Improve Your Game
Amaze your golf buddies when you get home by taking the time on your French Alps holiday to actually improve your game. Lessons, taught in English, are available at the Méribel Golf Club. The club’s pro offers one-week courses for adults and children of all levels from beginners to those who just want to tweak their game.
Once you feel you’re really on top of your game, why not join one of the many competitions run throughout the summer? Competitions at the club are open to everyone and, who knows, you might even go home from your French Alps holiday with a trophy in your hand luggage.
Golf Season
Obviously due to the course’s stunning location in the heart of the Three Valleys, golf here has a limited season. Exact opening dates tend to be weather dependent but usually run from early June until early November.
