On hearing that you are about to visit the pristine Seychelles’ islands don’t be surprised if you draw in sharp breaths and sighs of envy. This pearly archipelago comprises a cluster of 115 islands off the mainland of east Africa and is also the least populated country of this vast continent. Obviously, you cannot visit all 115 islands but you can surely take your pick. The best time to visit the country, seasoned tourists will inform you, is either March or October.

People on these islands are generally friendly and hospitable and speak English, French, and the local Creole dialect. Getting around and about the islands is also fairly simple as transport of all kinds work very well here. A bus is the cheapest option, of course, and so are ferry rides when you want to do some island-hopping.

As we had specified earlier, it is difficult to visit all the islands within the space of a single trip. So, would you like to start with Mahé which, according to some, happens to be ‘a jewel in the ocean?’ Although it happens to be the capital city most tourists prefer to see it, for some reason, as a transit lounge. How wasteful! For it is one of the most picturesque spots on earth with its gorgeously undulating troughs and valleys, not to mention beaches and shores. Some must-visits are the Morne Seychellois mount and the National Park. There are numerous luxury hotels you can stay in. There is, for instance Le Meridien Fisherman’s Cove with the best facilities that a luxury hotel can offer. And if you wish to splurge a little you could check into Banyan Tree Seychelles overlooking a beach and surrounded by a tropical vegetation paradise.

For truly exotic sea beaches most tourists love to visit the island of Victoria. There is also only one theatre in the island showing the latest movies. Those looking to live it up are likely to find a couple of luxury five star hotels like the Labriz Silhouette and the Cousine Island highly suitable. While in Victoria, though, do not forget to visit the Botanical Gardens with its profoundly exotic flora and fauna.

Another popular tourist destination is the island of Praslin with its fabulous National Park renowned for its Coco de Mer tree. It is believed that the first people to ever set foot on this island were convinced that they had spotted the Garden of Eden. The island of Praslin is also known for its great diving spots, rivaling those of Maldives. As for the coral reefs, you wouldn’t want to touch them as they are pristine and delicate, even though the last El Nino spread such widespread destruction. While driving through Praslin you’ll encounter some pretty large boulders and rocks which look poised for a thudding fall but are quite safe really. They also add to the scenic appeal of the island.

Like its kin, the Praslin too has a plethora of luxury five star hotels. The best known luxury hotel is the Le Lemuria Resort with a fantastic location, spacious roomsFind Article, and great food.

There is much more to explore in Seychelles once you get started…
