A short history

Being named after named after Rajput Chauhan Sultan Singh, Sultanpur is well known for salt production. After the persuasion of the famous ornithologist, Peter Jackson, the Sultanpur Bird Reserve was established and later was upgraded to National Park in 1989.

Visiting season & Climate

Tourists who are passionate bird-watchers can avail a comfortable stay in resorts in Gurgaon so as to do their observations in the Sultanpur National Park in the early hours.

  • Visiting this wonderful park during the Sunrise offers stunning experience as time is well suited for the bird watchers to see most the birds which will be in the sky around this time. One has to take permission to go in this time as the regular time for the visitors is from 7 am to 4-30p m and closed on Tuesdays for visitors.
  • Winter months from December to February, seem to be the best season to visit the Sultanpur National Park when a large number of migratory birds come here. The Sanctuary is closed to the public between May to September.
  • A good pair of binoculars is a must to clearly see the wildlife from a safe distance, without disturbing them.
  • Sultanpur experiences harsh summer up to 46°C and cold winter up to 0° C

Watch Towers and other facilities

For the convenience of bird watchers and to facilitate professional bird observers four watch towers are installed with adequate parking and other facilities. An Educational Interpretation Center is functioning in the Park for guiding the tourists. Also, easy transport facilities are offered for the professional bird-watchers and the tourists who stay at the Manesar resorts.

Bird Watcher’s Paradise

Undoubtedly, Sultanpur National Park is considered to be  a bird watcher's paradise for the below-referred reasons:

  • The park is housing around 250 species of birds that are migrated from distant regions like Siberia, Europe, and Afghanistan while few of them are resident species.
  • The prominent resident birds include Purple Sunbird, Common Mynah, and Green Bee Eater.
  • Winter season offers an amazing view of migratory birds like a Siberian crane, Eurasian wigeon, while species like Indian golden oriole, blue-tailed bee-eater are seen in summer.
  • Most of these species can be easily seen while they are wading, swimming or flying.

The popular Sultanpur National Park is well known as a picnic spot for the residents of New Delhi as well as NCR particularly in the winter season when many birds migrate here from all parts of the globe. Besides birds, animals like blue bull and blackbuck are seen here which attract kids and animal lovers. The entry ticket for every Indian is Rs 5/ and Rs 40/ for foreign tourists.
