There are so many options when it comes to choosing your family’s vacation spots. Doing a little research can help you narrow down the list.

This spring break, when the kids’ are out of school for a week, instead of enrolling them in another sports camp, why not take a mini-vacation. There are plenty of sites to be seen across the country. Most of the destinations can be visited on a minimal budget.

When searching for good vacation spots, you want to find a place that has a little for everybody. You want a place with some history, luxury and entertainment that is not too far away. Though it seems like this wouldn’t be possible, with a little effort you might be surprised to find a place for everyone in your home state or at least a short car trip away.

There are plenty of vacation spots that boast historical ties. Perhaps this is your niche. Instead of dragging everyone along while you investigate the area’s history, leave the spouse and kids to their own devices. Vacation spots that cater to the history bug and provide options for everyone else are out there.

Maybe you are looking for a little pampering this Spring Break. The ideal vacation spots are those with relaxing spa treatment packages. Quiet luxury is how you would like to spend the week. No history lessons or shouting matches with the kids. You might be surprised to find historic hotels boasting local history and a premiere day spa. While the kids are off on a hotel-sponsored day trip, you could relax under the gentle hands of a masseuse.

Of course, you can’t go to the spa or chat up the local historian without providing entertainment for the children. This trip is about them, right? Many historic hotels and sites have entertainment for the whole family. Depending on the area of the country, you might find horseback riding, white water rafting, ghost tours and more. Your hotel may provide programming for kids during the day.

Now, to find these destination gems, do a little research and think outside the box. A lot of families think of the coastal getaways with big hotel chains and theme parks. Look in your back yard or a state away. You may find interesting historical settings and beautiful, affordable family vacations near by.

Check with your local Chamber of Commerce. They may be able to draw your attention to something in your own county that you did not even realize was there. You could also get information from your state’s tourist bureau. Brochures and maps of the state could provide you with just the vacation spots you are looking for.

Going local doesn’t have to mean a stay-cation though. You could save a little money and stay in one of your community or state’s all-inclusive resort hotels. Spend money on the relaxing, entertainment and a family-sized suite, not on the drive or flight.

There are so many vacation spots across the United States that can provide something for the whole family.
