Volunteer Travel: Across the USA

Want to know more about volunteering opportunities across the country? Find out all you need to know about volunteer travel right here.†

Summer is a time when thousands upon thousands of Americans, both young and old, head out of town to somewhere new. Whether thatís a vacation to another state, a long-haul trip to somewhere warm and exotic or just to visit family and friends around the country, itís the perfect time to get away from it all. More and more often, however, Americans are plugging into a new type of travel, a sort of eco-travel, if you will, that allows them to have a great, relaxing vacation, at the same time as giving a little something back. We call it, volunteer travel.

So, what is this Ďvolunteer travelí?

Basically itís what it sounds like; a combination of volunteering and travelling. And weíre not talking soup kitchens or washing old peopleís cars here, oh no! Volunteer travel is so broad and encompasses so many different aspects of the volunteer sector; there really is something for everyone. By working with a volunteer agency, you can plan great trips right around the country and include a little volunteer work as you go. This could involve working on a ranch in Texas right up to volunteering with kids on drama productions in West Hollywood. If the bright lights arenít your type of thing, you could work with disadvantaged children in Chicago on sport or music projects, or even head down to the beaches of Florida to protect the natural marine life. It really is up to you! Take a look at a good volunteer agency like GVI to find out exactly what is available this summer.

Is it only in the USA?

Definitely not! Volunteering abroad is also on the upComputer Technology Articles, with year on year increases in young Americans taking time out from college or bridging the gap between high school and the real world who go abroad to travel and work for a non-profit organization. Take a look online for more details.†
