Why Own a Vacation Home instead of Rent
When you want to get away you don't necessarily want the hassle of dealing with a hotel room. Vacation homes are a great way to have the rest and relaxation you want without the headache.
It might seem like a waste of money to buy your own vacation homes. For starters that's a big investment that will be sitting vacant for a good portion of the year. It's a reasonable consideration when you are making this decision. The truth of the matter is, if you are just going to use the home once or twice a year for a week or two at a time, it's not that great of an investment. If you are someone who is able to spend months at this residence then your investment will go a long way.
Another thing to consider when determining whether buying vacation homes is better than renting a condo or hotel room consider this. Can you make money with this? If your house is in a popular tourist spot you might consider leasing it out during the times of the year that you know you won't be using the property. You can blackout dates you know you'll be in town and then rent the rest of the time. Not only can this help you make your mortgage payment but it can put a little in your pocket as well.
Being able to just pack up and go on a moment's notice is another good reason to purchase vacation homes. You don't have to worry about availability. You know that your house will be open and ready for you to come in. The only reason this wouldn't work is if you lease the property out to other tourists. If so you might have to check your schedule to ensure that no one is renting the property from you for the week. Otherwise there is no question of whether or not you have a room available at your favorite holiday spot.
Vacations homes are a big investment. You need to weigh the pros and cons of having a piece of property to call your very own before you buy. Often times many of these pieces of real estate are part of a larger community that has many benefits to owning. They usually have some form of club house and amenities that you can enjoy during your stay to make it that much more delightful. If you own property at one of these sites and plan on leasing it occasionally check with the home owners association to verify what the restrictions might be.
