a)      Get Your Domain Name

To obtain a domain name, you are required to pay to domain registrar an annual fee which may vary from $10 to $50.

b)      Choose a Web Host and Sign Up for an Account

After getting your desired domain name, you are required to get a web hosting for your website so as to make it accessible by everyone in the world. All you have to do is to choose a good web hosting company and sign up for an account. Basically, web host is a company which has multiple computers/ severs connected with internet. Where getting a domain name is almost equivalent to acquiring business name, getting a web hosting would be similar to taking an office space or shop for operating your business.

c)       Creating Web Pages

After setting up your domain name and web hosting, the next step is confined to designing of site. Here the question arises that whether you will design the web pages by yourself or you would be hiring some external web designers for it. If you have chosen yourself for performing this task, then you need to first decide on which platform you want to build your website.

If you have some technical skills, then you can opt for HTML, otherwise CMS would be best option for you. There are numerous Open Source CMS available in the market such as WordPress, Joomla, Drupal etc. These systems have plenty of themes along with a WYSIWYG ("What You See Is What You Get") web editor by which you can easily update your website content.

d)      Testing Your Website

This is a follow up step which ensures that all the requirements are met as desired. Testing is must for each and every project to ensure that website works properly without any error. It is suggested to implement smoke testing at every stage of web design process.

In this phase, you would also need to test all your web pages in different browsers such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, Safari and Chrome. This type of testing is done to ensure the browser compatibility of a site.

e)      Promoting Your Website in Search Engines

Once you are done with above mentioned steps, you are required to submit your website in various search engines like Google, Bing, Yahoo Alta Vista etc. Merely developing a website won’t help you in generating business for your site.
