“What’s All the Excitement Surrounding the Dr. Oz Diet?”

Dr. Who?

There’s a flurry of excitement in the weight loss industry – again.  I kept hearing the name Dr. Oz.  I kept thinking of Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz    every time I heard the name.   One day I was watching Oprah and I heard the name again – this time, it was attached to a diet.  It was called the Dr. Oz diet.

So that’s what all the hoopla was about!  I thought to myself, “Yet another diet guru here to share some ground breaking, liberating weight loss miracle with us.”  So I did some research.  Who is Dr. Oz and what is the Dr. Oz diet?  Dr. Oz is a Harvard graduate who received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania.  He is a professor and vice chairman of surgery at Columbia University.  Okay, kudos for him so far. But what about his diet?

The Doctor’s Prescription

What is radical about the Dr. Oz diet is that the focus is on overall health and disease prevention – not weight loss.  But inherent in its focus on disease prevention is the key to weight loss.  Dr. Oz believes that your waist line is a crucial indication of risky medical conditions such as heart disease, stroke and diabetes.  This is definitely a radical concept.  The diet focuses on nutrition, fitness, and emotional health.

No Quick Fix Here

If you’re looking for a quick fix, you won’t find it here.  You won’t lose 10 pounds a week either!  If you want to get into your skinny jeans, you’ll have to have some delayed gratification.  The Dr. Oz diet is a lifestyle change – not a quick fix.  His diet is about providing the individual with important information on how your body metabolizes food so that you can make better, healthier choices.  In the process, you lose weight.

Never Go on a Diet Again

The Dr. Oz diet has some very sound ideas that are easy to implement.  Here are some of the principles behind the diet that are very easy to follow:

•Walk 30 minutes a day – no matter what
•Measure your waist line in the beginning so you’ll know where you stand fat wise
•Restock your pantry with healthy foods
•Eat a hand full of nuts every day (the equivalent of 1 oz)
•Reduce your caloric intake by 100 calories per day
•Eat only when you’re hungry
•Don’t count carbs or calories
•Eat nine handfuls of fruits and vegetables every day
•Eat fish three times per week
•Drink one to two glasses of water before a meal to help fill you up so that you don’t overeat.

Sound Principles for a Sound Body and Mind

The Dr. Oz diet is a very reasonable, easy, convenient “diet” to follow.  The sound principles for mind and body distinguish it from the fad diets out there.  Since the focus is on overall health and not weight loss, you’ll less likely be obsessed with your weight and give up on “dieting” if you’re primary purpose is to become healthy.  Don’t worry, in the endFree Reprint Articles, you will lose all the weight you need on the Dr. Oz diet.
