How to Apply Hair Extensions

So you have your hair extensions washed, brushed and all set to clip into your hair. But how do you put them on? 

Don’t regret letting a pro do the work just yet, here are a few simple steps to get your hair extensions clipped and ready to be flaunted in public without a single soul knowing you have them.

1. Clip all your hair up leaving a horizontal parting about 1.5 inches above the nape of your neck. Then, use a comb to untangle and prepare the layer of hair left at the nape which will serve as a secure bed for the first hair extension.

2. Place the first extension in by clipping the teeth to the bed of hair you just combed. Make sure that you clip them as closely to the scalp as possible to leave them hidden from view. Clip them from right to left and hopefully as tight as possible.

3. Section off another 1.5 inched layer above the first parting and comb it to create another bed for the second hair extension. The amount of sections you use depends on the thickness of your hair and how you want the final result to look. If you don’t have too much hair then about 4 sections should be enough.

4. Keep sectioning and clipping until you have the thickness and texture you want. Now it’s time for styling to blend your natural hair with the extensions. You can gently comb the crown of your head to give some height and fullness, but remember not to comb through your new hair if they’re curled or they’ll lose their style. Also avoid spraying any silicon based hair products or you’ll risk the clips slipping out.

And you’re done! A few wise words is to practice these steps before any event, you’ll probably need a few tries to get it completely right. In the worst of cases, you can always visit your stylist and ask if they can clip and style your own hair extensions. A last tip is to always choose extensions that match your own hair color, otherwise half the world will know that you’re wearing them. So there you have it, four simple steps to go from normal to amazing without breaking the bank or paying high fees at a hair salon, all you need to do is make sure that you have a good set of real human hair extensions for natural looking style and long lasting locks.
