Singer Company Helps Sponsor the Independent Handbag Designer Awards

The Singer Company was founded in 1851 and has since become one of the leading sellers of sewing machines to individual customers, artisans and large companies alike.  Singer has international presence throughout the world with facilities in Brazil and China along with 10 marking operations located overseas, selling sewing machines in more than 190 countries.  The company has demonstrated innovation throughout its century plus years in business, having invented the first portable sewing machine and the first computer-controlled sewing machine.

In 2009, Handbag Designer 101, a handbag designer resource, announced that Singer will sponsor the "Best Handmade Handbag Category" for the upcoming Independent Handbag Designer Awards.  The competition is intended to inspire designers to use new techniques and give praise and recognition to those currently creating fine handbags worldwide.

Emily Blumenthal, founder of Handbag Designer 101 and the Independent Handbag Designer Awards, reports. "We are extremely excited to again partner with the SINGER Sewing Company whose name has been synonymous with sewing, reliability and innovation for the past 157 years. Our ability to now provide SINGER sewing tips to over 1,000 handbag designers and our 300,000 online visitors solidifies that Handbag Designer 101 is the handbag designer resource."

Beginning in November, 2008, the Singer Company began to share its "Sewing Tip of the Month," giving sewing tips to both the advanced and novice handbag designer, focusing on seam finishes, finishing techniques and decorative touches.  The step-by-step instructions are created by sewing experts and will be featured on Handbag Designer 101, which targets both handbag designers and those interested in the business and products.
