Renowned manufacturer of smartphones, HTC has come up trumps yet again with the Desire. This great looking and versatile Android Smartphone packed an extensive specification list, whilst remaining a relatively compact and lightweight unit.

The HTC Desire remains compact at just 119x 60x 11.9mm. The design of the handset is simplistic with the fascia dominated by the large 3.7 inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, with a thumb-operated optical trackpad located beneath this. The screen boasts superb display quality of the on screen content, thanks to the ability to display up to 16M colours within a pixel layout of 480x 800, and coupled with the built in accelerometer sensor, this makes it perfect for viewing video files and photos.

Storage of files and data is provided courtesy of substantial internal memory along with a built in micro SD card slot, which can accommodate a memory card of up to a generous 32 GB. The HTC Desire also features an extensive internal phonebook, which can store a huge number of contacts and also includes the photocall feature, which allows users to assign a photo to a particular contact within the phonebook, and this is then displayed on the screen whenever that person is in contact.

Thanks to an impressive 5 megapixel built in digital camera; budding photographers are well catered for as are those who simply like to take spontaneous snapshots. The resulting images of the camera are of impressively high quality, thanks to a number of image enhancing features, which also aim to simplify the task of taking great photos. Similarly high quality video footage can also be taken thanks to the ability of the camera to double up as a video camera.

GPRS and EDGE (class 10 versions) are both called upon to provide the HTC Desire with its connections to cellular networks and also the internet. In areas where 3G coverage is available, access to the internet is offered in the shape of an HSDPA connection, with connection available at up to 7.2 Mbps. Wi-Fi allows for a faster connection to be achieved, and the handset can be connected to compatible hardware devices thanks to the presence of Bluetooth and micro USB connections.

The winning combination of advanced technology and aesthetic style are central to the success of the HTC Desire, and it looks set to remain as popular as ever for the foreseeable future.
