The recently released HTC Desire Z sees the winning combination of a physical slide out QWERTY keyboard in conjunction with an impressive touchscreen. Building on the successful original HTC Desire,HTC Desire Z - A Premium Android Smartphone Articles a number of changes and improvements have been made, making the HTC Desire Z one of the ultimate Android smartphones.

Utilising the new Android 2.2 (Froyo) OS in conjunction with a powerful 1 GHz processor, the handset packs and ideal platform for customisation and expansion under the hood. The operating system allows users to browse thousands of apps in the Android Market from many different categories, similar to the Apple AppStore.

The handset measures 119x 60.4x 14.2 mm, which is certainly impressive for a phone with a separate keyboard unit. It is also surprisingly lightweight at just 180 grams making it a comfortable phone to hold and use, either with one hand when using the touchscreen or optical trackpad, or with two hands when using the QWERTY keyboard.

The 3.7 inch S-LCD capacitive touchscreen does a great job of not only navigating the user interface and apps, but also displaying high quality still images and video footage. The high quality display quality is made possible thanks to a pixel configuration on the screen of 480x 800, along with the ability to display up to 16M colours. The screen also features accelerometer and proximity sensors, as well as an optical trackpad and touch sensitive control panel.

Users are alerted to incoming calls and messages via both vibration and ringing. There is also the added bonus of MP3 and WAV ringtone support, which allows users to customise this aspect of the phone.

The HTC Desire Z comes with 1.5 GB of internal storage capacity right out of the box, and although this will cater to the needs of many users, there is also an integrated micro SD card slot. This has the potential to accommodate a memory card of up to 32 GB. This feature is sure to be useful to those who plan to store their music collection on the phone, or those who shoot a lot of HD footage with the built in camera.

The camera boats 5 megapixels, and thanks to its high operating pixel resolution, provides great quality still images, which can be taken with a minimum of fuss thanks to a number of built in image enhancing features. The camera can also shoot HD video footage in 720p meaning the HTC Desire Z also double up as an effective standalone digital camera.

A powerful web browser (thanks to HSDPA and Wi-Fi connections) an effective multimedia player, an impressive digital camera; the HTC Desire Z posses all of these qualities and many more, meaning it certainly live up to its name, claiming a spot as one of the most desirable smartphones on the market.
