With a seemingly constant stream of release, it is not often that the manufacturer releases a handset as head turning as the N8.

Dimensions wise, the Nokia N8 about average, but manages to pack a long and impressive spec list into a handset measuring 113.5x 59.1x 12.9 mm and weighing 135 g.  The front of the handset is dominated by the 3.5 inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, which utilises a pixel configuration of 360x 640 which can display up to 16M colours, providing stunning display quality of photos and video files.  Additional features of the screen include multi-touch input, scratch-resistant class as well as proximity and accelerometer sensors, the latter of which automatically rotates the onscreen content based upon the orientation of the phone.

 

Users can easily carry out handsfree calls thanks to a built in speakerphone system as well as a 3.5 mm audio socket which can be used with either handsfree headsets or earphones for listening to music via the internal media player.  Both vibration and ringing alert users to incoming calls and messages and there is the added bonus of MP3 and WAV ringtones support allowing users to customise their and message tones.

 

A generous 16 GB of internal storage is provided as standard within the Nokia N8, which should prove sufficient for the needs of most users in terms of storing a digital music collection, or other files such as video clips and documents.  In there and case that further storage should be required, users can simply utilise the integrated micro SD card slot which can accommodate a memory card of up to 32 GB.

 

Class 33 versions of both EDGE and GPRS provide the Nokia N8 with its connection to the relevant cellular networks, whilst 3G and Wi-Fi are used to browse the web. In areas covered by 3G, an HSDPA connection provides download speeds of up to 10.2 Mbps, alongside HSUPA at 2 Mbps.  Wi-Fi provides a faster connection whenever users are able to connect to local wireless networks.

 

The Nokia N8 features an outstanding 12 mega pixel digital camera which operates at a pixel resolution of 3000x 4000 in order to provide top quality still images, as well as the ability to shoot HD video footage.  The hardware of the camera is impressive in itself, featuring Carl Zeiss optics, Xenon flash and Autofocus, whilst in image enhancing software package is also provided which includes face and smile detection and geo-tagging, the latter of which functions thanks to GPS.  Video footage can be shot in 720p HD at 25 frames per second, and there is an additional VGA video called camera located on the front of the handset.

 

Utilising the Symbian 3 OS alongside a 680 MHz processor, the Nokia N8 is both powerful and versatile and provides an ideal option for many different types of mobile phone user.  With a number of different colour variants available it is sure to everyone from style conscious users to the business professional.
