Dubbed the PlayStation Phone,Sony Ericsson XPERIA Play- With countable features Articles the Sony Ericsson XPERIA Play obviously has the PlayStation genes in its Android fusion Smartphone avatar. Figuring prominently is the slide out D-pad attesting to its lineage. So is it a smartphone-playstation or the other way around? It is for the user to decide.

Design and Appearance of Sony Ericsson mobiles:-

There is nothing radically new in its looks since it carries forward the same curvature style of design but with a decent quality to build, rather thicker than current crop of smartphones. When slid up, the handset lets the PlayStation type gaming pad come into view but on a smaller scale with the same responsiveness and touch sensitive dual sticks. The Sony Ericsson XPERIA Play part is not very different in appearance from the others from the same stable. Specifications include 175 grams weight and 119x62x16 mm thick having LCD capacitive and LED backlit touch screen display available in 16M colors having 480x854 pixels. It has 2G, 3G networks. The phone memory includes 512MB RAM, unlimited call records, 400Mb internal, unlimited entries and 8GB card to 32GB expandable. The data includes WiFi Hotspot, Wlan WiFi 802.11/b/g/n, GPRS, Edge, GPRS, Edge with A2DP Bluetooth. The camera features of the phone include 5MP rear with LED flash, image stabilization and geotagging features. The phone includes 1 GHz Scorpion Processor with Android OS 2.3.4 Gingerbread and Adreno 205 GPU, Qualcomm. Email, Push email, SMS, MMS is various messaging features with no radio facility. The phone is available in black, white and blue color having only 4G.

General features of Sony Ericsson XPERIA Play:- GPS, Java, Dedicated game store, Digital compass, Music player, Google search, maps, YouTube, Document viewer, etc. Battery: Li-Ion 1500mAH with 425Hrs standby on 2G, 413 H on 3G, 31 hrs music play

Handling and Performance:- The outer construction has a cheap feel. Surprisingly it has a flawlessly operating spring loaded slide out gamepad that works well with the analog touchpad’s responding with more sensitivity than capacitive touch screens. A big advantage is that your finger does not obscure the screen. Disappointingly, the Home and Menu buttons need quite a bit of pressing and are not backlit. A consolation good feature is you can insert and remove SIM as well as the microSD cards without having to remove the battery.

Performance-wise, the 1 GHZ Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon is no slowpoke, aided as it is by the Adreno 205 GPU. In comparison to the crop of smart phones aided by dual core processors and pots of RAM, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA Play seems underpowered especially when it comes to gaming, with the Android market poised to provide games for this console-smartphone. At 16M the display offers good resolution but it is on the dimmer side, making operation in full sunlight an eye-squinting process. The 5 MP rear camera, though, provides very good quality still images. Video at 800x480 isn’t quite in the same class. As is to be expected, gaming performance is more than satisfactory; it can be addictive on this device. The Gingerbread OS, tweaked by Sony, does help in text manipulation. The tweaking also reduces battery life. Browser performance does not hit the heights and overall operation is slow in comparison to the sleek and fast smart phones out there. Diehard PlayStation fans will like this but for the rest, the market is full of smart phones for their needs. This Sony Ericsson Mobile price is only Rs. 26990/-
