Whilst similar in appearance, it offers a number of upgraded features over its predecessors. Available in both Black and White colour options, it offers alternatives for the style conscious user.

Measuring 109x 60x 14mm, it has the relatively chunky feel of other models in the range, which goes a long way to reassure users of the handsets build quality. It is relatively lightweight at 122 grams, making comfortable to hold and use, and pocket friendly. The QWERTY keypad allows for efficient text entry making the Blackberry 9780 Bold an ideal choice for those who send a lot of emails or text messages. The touch sensitive optical trackpad is also included for navigating the Blackberry 6.0 OS.

Users are alerted to incoming messages and calls by a combination of vibration and ringing with the added luxury of assigning MP3 music files as ringtones. In order to carry out handsfree conversations, a speakerphone system is built in, as is a 3.5mm audio jack which can accommodate handsfree headsets as well as earphones for listening to music.

Internal memory within the Blackberry 9780 Bold is 256 MB with 512 MB RAM, however there is also a micro SD card slot. There is an internal phonebook which can store an endless number of contact details, and this comes with the added bonus of photocall functionality.

As you may expect from a Blackberry smartphone, the 9780 Bold comes with a number of connectivity options to keep the phone connected to both cellular networks and the internet. GPRS and EDGE are the primary means of connecting to the appropriate cellular networks, whereas internet access relies on both 3G coverage and Wi-Fi where available. The latter utilises the signal transmitted by wireless internet routers whenever users have access, and offers a greatly enhanced web browsing experience. 3G coverage proves a good level of connectivity, with speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps being available.

A 5 megapixel camera is provided to allow users to take high quality still images along with the ability to shoot video footage. The camera utilises a pixel configuration of 2592x 1944, and boasts autofocus and an LED flash.
