The HTC Desire has been the most successful handset for the manufacturer and won awards such as “phone of the year”, testament to its popularity and features. A new and improved version, the HTC Desire S has just been announced and looks set to prove equally, if not more popular than its predecessor.

The appearance of the handset has been refined rather than totally overhauled,The HTC Desire S Provides Stunning Aesthetics And Features Alike Articles with an appealing black finish.  The handset measures 115x 59.8x 11.6 millimetres whilst weighing in at a pocket friendly 130 g.  The front of the handset is dominated by an ample 3.7 inch S-LCD capacitive touchscreen which is on hand to display up to 16 million individual colours within a pixel setup of 480x 800 pixels.  The screen supports multi-touch input and comes with proximity and accelerometer sensors as well as a touch-sensitive shortcut panel located beneath the screen.  The highly versatile and customizable HTC Sense makes another appearance, this time the upgraded v3.0 of the user interface.

 

In order to store files such as music tracks, video clips and documents, the HTC Desire S comes with 1.1 GB ROM with 768 MB RAM as standard.  An integrated microSD card slot is also included which allows users to install a memory card of up to 32GB whenever they require further storage.

 

In order to connect to the internet and cellular networks, the HTC Desire S calls upon both GPRS and EDGE.  In areas where 3G coverage is available, users can enjoy fast download speeds of up to 14.4 Mbps for a super fast internet browsing experience.  Additionally, Wi-Fi can be used for this purpose whenever users have access to local wireless networks.  DLNA, GPS, Bluetooth and micro USB are all included connectivity options of the handset

 

The HTC Desire S is an impressive cameraphone, boasting a 5 mega pixel camera located on the back of the handset which operates at 2592x 1944 pixels and comes with autofocus, touch-focus, image stabilisation and an LED flash.  One of the differences between this and the camera on the original HTC Desire is the fact that this version can shoot high definition video footage in 720p quality.  There is an additional VGA camera on the front of the phone which can be used for video calls and self portrait photos.

 

The latest version Google’s Android operating-system, v2.3 (Gingerbread) works alongside a 1 GHz Scorpion processor to provide a versatile and easy to use platform which is highly customisable.  The processor provides a lightning fast user interface whilst providing the power to run demanding applications with ease.  Users are able to browse over 100,000 apps in the Android Market, which can be downloaded straight to the phone at varying costs.  Plenty of multimedia and entertainment features as well as social networking and productivity apps are included right out of the box making the HTC Desire S a very versatile smartphone indeed.
