The handset has both 2G and 3G HSDPA internet connectivity, as well as Class 10 GPRS and EDGE, and features a WAP 2.0 browser to view sites on. For regular users of Google however, there is Google search, maps and mail as well as YouTube and Google Talk available for integrated use, alongside the social networking integration. This makes it faster and easier to use such services, find your way around or keep up with those Tweets.
The phone also provides Bluetooth v2.1 with A2DP for close-range, free data sharing, plus microUSB. These come in particularly useful for avid snappers as they can use the 3.15 megapixel camera with autofocus to capture photos and make videos. These can then be played back or viewed with the MP4, DivX and WMV compatibility through the handset’s TFT touchscreen with 256,000 colours available, and an Accelerometer sensor allows for auto-rotation. 
For more everyday use, the GT540 provides a threaded view for text messaging (SMS), MMS and email and instant messaging, with T9 predictive text supported. For work or business use an Organiser and Document viewer are also featured, alongside voice memo.
The handset has the usual MP3, WAV, eAAC+ audio playback for music, when the Stereo FM radio with RDS is not being used. MP3 ringtones are also supported. There is plenty of space to store music, photos and videos too with the microSD (TransFlash) card slot which can store up to 32 gigabytes per card for storage, while there is practically limitless call records and phonebook space. 
The LG GT540 which comes in black or white has an impressive range of social networking and messaging features, and the camera can capture those best moments in photo or video to be posted instantly on Facebook for example. Meanwhile YouTube, and stereo FM radio, along with the storage for plenty of music can provide the entertainment. The handset is a winner for any social networking addict who can’t go out without being connected to their favourite networking site, while still providing them with the more traditional messaging options such as threaded SMS, through a sleek design and with touchscreen technology.
