In the modern age,The New Means of Communication: VoIP Articles called by some the Age of Technology, it is impossible to imagine a life, without access to communications. Our every day life is based on the possibility of making long distance calls and contacting people all over the Globe, especially if you're an executive in an international firm or have friends and relatives abroad. Back in the day, there were no other means of communication, but the post, writing and sending letters, but that takes time and there are no guarantees that your letter won't end up lost or stuck somewhere in the system. Fortunately, with the development of modern technology, international calls and text messages have become something as normal to us, as breathing. What changed? Well, for one thing, the VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) software was created. Everything after that is history...

There are many advantages to VoIP, but the most important one is that it allows you to make cheap or even free international calls. One way of doing so is via the use of calling cards, that are not only cheap, but are also available online, saving you the need to go and buy them from a store.

Another convenient mean of communication, relying on the VoIP technology, is Skype. It's the most popular and widely used software, as it is free to install and requires very little to put in action. All you need is a laptop with broadband Internet connection, a headset with a microphone, for quality's purposes, and to sign up for an account, but that takes no longer than a couple of minutes. Then you're all set and ready to start talking abroad.

What other benefits does Skype offer? Well, for one thing there is the possibility of buying credits, so that you could call landlines at lower rates, then without the usage of the software. If you're an executive in an international firm and want to keep a closer connection to your employees, you could host a conference call, or even make video calls. That saves a lot of time and, technically, money, when it comes to briefings and coordination of the labor.

Naturally, there are other ways to make cheap international calls as well, and according to many people in comparison to them, Skype would appear relatively expensive! So, if you want to stay in touch with loved ones and colleagues abroad, the best thing for you to do, is research your options as thoroughly as possible, before picking a particular provider. After all, everything that's out there these days could be found on the Internet, right?
