Arguably one of the most impressive handsets to date from the manufacturer, the Nokia N8 has proven to be successful since its release in April 2010.

Measuring 113.5x 59.1x 12.9 mm, the Nokia N8 is a relatively compact handset and certainly lightweight 135 g. The AMOLED capacitive touchscreen measures 3.5 inches and utilises a pixel resolution of 360x 640 in order to display up to 16M colours.  This results in wonderful quality display of on screen imagery and videos as well as user interface in general.  The screen features proximity and accelerometer sensors as standard and is manufactured from scratch-resistant Gorilla glass, in a bid to protect it from everyday wear, tear and scratches.

 

Both vibration and ringing alert users to incoming calls and messages.  The Nokia N8 also features the added bonus of supporting MP3 and WAV music files as ringtones.  For users can simply choose a track from their music collection and assign it as a ringtone with a touch of the screen.

 

A whopping 16 GB of internal storage is provided as standard.  This is much of the competition to shame and offers users the opportunity to store their entire digital music collection as well as heaps of other files and videos etc.  Although generous in itself, should users require further storage in the 16 GB which is already provided, who can utilise the integrated micro SD card slot by installing a memory card, which can provide an additional 32 GB of storage.

 

Class 33 versions of both GPRS & EDGE provide the Nokia N8 with its connection to the relevant cellular networks.  In order to connect to the Internet, both 3G and Wi-Fi are utilised to provide the optimum connectivity dependent upon what coverage is available.  In areas covered by 3G, an HSDPA connection provides impressive speeds of up to 10.2 Mbps alongside HSUPA at 2 Mbps.  A faster connection can be attained thanks to Wi-Fi connectivity which takes advantage of local wireless networks are available.  In order to connect to other compatible hardware devices, both Bluetooth and micro USB connections are provided as standard.

 

Arguably one of the most impressive features of the Nokia N8 has to be its digital camera.  Boasting a whopping 12 mega pixels, the resulting still images have to be seen to be believed.  Thanks to a large pixel resolution of 4000x 3000, the images retain their high quality even after they have been transferred to a computer in zoomed in on screen.  The camera can of course shoot video footage, and this is in stunning 720p HD at 25 fps.

 

With a wealth of additional multimedia and social networking features, the Nokia N8 has to be one of the most comprehensively functional and indeed entertaining handsets from the manufacturer.  So what if the features you are in for a Smartphone, the Nokia N8 should be at the top of your list.
