Samsung has recently announced their latest touch screen handset, the I9000 Galaxy S. Offering advanced touch screen technology a five mega pixel digital camera and a fast Internet connection via both 3G and Wi-Fi.

Featuring the renowned Android operating system, in this case v2.1, the most up to date version of the software.  In conjunction with a powerful 1 GHz processor, this provides a fast and smooth user interface which handles demanding applications with ease.  A versatile media player supports a whole host of video and media files such as MP4/MP3.  A number of games are pre-installed, and a stereo FM radio player is provided in order to keep users entertained for hours on end.  A document viewer is sure to appeal to business users, as it allows MS Office documents to be viewed when out of the office.  Integration two several popular websites is included, amongst them Google, YouTube, and Picasa.

The internal memory is either 8 GB for 16 GB dependent upon the model.  A micro SD card slot can be utilised by installing a memory card of up to 32 GB, allowing a great deal of storage for data such as media files.  The internal phonebook can store a seemingly endless number of contacts and features the popular Photocall function.  This allows a photo to be assigned to each contact, and this is then displayed on the screen whenever that person calls.

 

Class 12 versions of both GPRS and edge provide the primary methods of connecting to cellular networks.  Wi-Fi Technology allows a fast Internet connection to be achieved wherever it senses the presence of a local wireless Internet router.  In areas where 3G coverage is available, a HSDPA connection provides access to the Internet at speeds of up to 7.2 mega bytes per second (alongside HSUPA at 5.76 mega bytes per second).  Both Bluetooth and micro USB connections allow the handset to connect to other compatible hardware devices both wirelessly and directly so a number of functions can be carried out.

 

The Samsung Galaxy S is equipped with a digital camera boasting five mega pixels, operating at a pixel resolution of 2592x 1944, providing excellent detail and clarity of on screen images.  The camera can also shoot video in 720p quality at a rate of 30 frames per second.  Autofocus, touch focus and face and smile detection simplify the task of taking quality photos.
