Seen by many as the main rival to the Apple iPhone 4, the Samsung Galaxy S boasts an impressive spec list which includes a 5 megapixel camera, heaps of internal storage, and one of the most impressive touchscreens on the market.

In areas with 3G coverage, an HSDPA connection provides speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps, however a faster and more reliable connection can be achieved with Wi-Fi connectivity. This depends on access to local wireless networks, in commercial and domestic lactations, but there is an increasing number of public Wi-Fi hotspots appearing all over the country.  GPRS and EDGE keep the Samsung Galaxy S connected to the appropriate cellular networks, whilst Bluetooth and micro USB connections allow users to connect the handset to compatible hardware devices.

 

A 5 megapixel camera caters for both photography enthusiasts and those who like to take spontaneous snapshots when out and about with friends and family. Still images are of good quality, and enhanced further by autofocus, touch focus, face & smile detection as well as geo-tagging. The latter utilises GPS to keep track of where users took their photos. As an alternative to still images, the camera can also shoot video footage, and this is in no less than 720p (HD) quality.

 

The Samsung Galaxy S ships with Android 2.1 installed, but this can be upgraded to 2.2 and later versions. This versatile and highly powerful software works wonders in conjunction with a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Users can access the Android Market to download apps from many different categories, all of which are handles with ease thanks to the processor under the hood.
