Question: I have been warned by my laptop that I need a new battery (which right now I can't afford),How do I lock folders with a password on computer? Articles plus my charger port is broken now. So I have been putting all my files/folders on my flash but I need to put them on my dad's computer so I can get more off. I was wondering how I can lock my folders and files so they will only open for me since my dad's computer is like a family computer.

Answer 1:  Apply permissions to your folders

Highlight the folder and go to the file properties from the "file" option you should see a sharing tab. When you click on this tab the sharing and security screen appears and you can select an option to only allow the folder to be opened by you. If you have a password on your account it will automatically apply the password to the folder, if not it will prompt you to create a password.

Answer 2. Use WinRAR to password protect your folders

WinRAR is a powerful compression tool with many integrated additional functions to help you organize your compressed archives. By using this tool, you can also add a password to your folders.

1. Right-click your target folders - select "Add to archive".

2. Select the Advanced tab and then click the Set password button.

3. Type your password, and type the password again to confirm it, click OK. Here you can also check the box in front of "Encrypt file names".

4. Click Ok and wait for compressing. The task will complete in seconds.

Answer 3. Use file encryption apps to encrypt your folders

By using a file encryption software, you can give a solid layer of protection for your folders. Once you encrypt your files, a password is required if you want to access the folder every time. Following are some good file encryption programs.
