Montessori Classroom helps to Nurture each Child's Interest

Nurturing a child’s interests is like planting a tree – the seed is sown during the best care years before the tree grows into something magnificent.

As a Montessori teacher you should know that children flourish when they are able to express themselves and explore their individual gifts and abilities. One way in which you can help is by using a variety of actions and activities to nurture and guide their children in their unique strengths and capabilities. In this case it is important to nurture the child’s interests from an early age, before it blossom into full grown talents over the years. The child should be exposed to a variety of activities, such as playing music, singing, drawing etc. A teacher should see what the child is drawn to naturally, and encourage the child to explore those avenues in an in-depth manner. Early age teachers are usually the first to notice the exceptional qualities of the gifted young children.  As a Montessori teacher you are a daily witness to the abilities and interests of the young child. When you are in the class you can feel a steady stream of events surrounding you: prodding questions; a colourful output of paintings, witty babbling of phrase; kid stuff experiments, and a voracious interest in adult behaviour.
You cannot force on kids to choose a particular hobby or interest. The passion has to come from within. And this is the part that is a bit tricky to nurture. It is one thing for a good Montessori teacher to expose the child to the right experiences. It is an important job of a Montessori teacher to make a child love something. You should encourage their natural interests. Children are able to learn so much more through different activities because it captures their attention and imaginations. If he/ she likes music, play it often, you can also play instruments together or dance together. If he/she likes music give him/ her different instruments to play. One of the most effective ways to nurture young children’s gifts is to share your own interests and talents with them. You should persist in their goals with excellent models. For instance, you should ask the kids to help you develop projects and take them along with interesting new concepts for exploring their own work. Their questions and eagerness to learn would make them know how much fun it could be to have a passion in life.
