Nurses currently have many
options available in a career. The medical field is growing, expanding and in
need of nurses. With the demand and increase in jobs one may think that landing
one would be simple enough; if only this was true. Nursing is just like any
other job / career, you have people who are educated and experience more so
then others. Naturally, other characteristics are taken into account such as
work history, personality etc. Have you tried to change your personality? It’s
a difficult task to do, let me tell you! What you can do however to get a leg
up on everyone else is to educate yourself.
By educating yourself, I mean go
back to school and further your education. Many programs are offered around the
country, at nearly university or college you should be able to find a nursing
program. You may be thinking at this point, I need to support myself; I can’t
go back to school. Incorrect again! Due to new advancements in technology over
the last many years, you have the option to take online courses / degrees.
Universities such as Sacred Heart offer RN to BSN programs for very reasonable
cost and the benefits are amazing! Study and learn on your schedule, not that
of a professors or university / college. With online courses, the material is
available at any time of day or night. You can graduate with a new degree in no
time!
Why wouldn’t you want to advance
your career? After all, receiving a BSN not only will give you a leg up into
getting a position but a bargaining chip to negotiate salary! Who knows, maybe
you will decide to get your Masters and help administer a physician’s office or
become a nursing director. One thing is for sure, you need to start now! The
longer you wait, the less likely you are to start.
