When planning a wedding there are many expenses, and although food is an important factor, it does not need to be the most expensive one. A catered meal can be nice, and convenient, but sometimes it is just not worth the extra money, especially for the appetizers. Cooking is fun, and with a bit of creativity it is not difficult to find simple creations which will save money and please your guests.

Examples of what can be made to look fancy are deviled eggs with some colorful veggies on top, biscuits or sweet rolls with spices drizzled on top or a simple plate of stacked mozzarella, tomatoes and basil. Other simple, do it yourself, snack ideas include veggie plates with a yummy (fancy or simple, store bought or self-made) dip such as artichoke or ranch or a quick batch of Quesadillas with some guacamole and salsa dip.

 

 If your preference is to buy the appetizers, the cost can still be brought down significantly by leaving them on a table, instead of hiring servers. If people are hungry they will eat. A tray of assorted cheeses, meats and veggies will satisfy the crowd before the main meal without filling them up and having the tasty treats brought to the guests on a silver platter is not only excessive, but unnecessary. It is not expected of you to have servants manage the wedding, you are only human, let go of the stress.

 

 If it is expected of you to have service at your wedding, or if it just seems like a necessity but not an affordable convenience, think outside the box, there may be another way. Are there unemployed, yet responsible teenagers in your life? Ask them if they could do you a favor, offer them half as much as a professional server would receive and not only will you have service at your wedding, but they will acquire work experience.

 

 Have fun with it! This is your wedding! It is not a bad idea to put some of the treats on a small platter and bring them around to your guests yourself. Not only will your guests be delighted to be served by the family, but it will give you a conversation starter and a way to connect to those at the party who you may not be quite as close to.

 

 There are many ways to lower the cost of wedding appetizers, there is no need to stress the little stuff!
