NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Elizabeth Sabine in Enigmatic Visions. The exhibition opens July 28, 2017 and runs through August 17, 2017 with an opening reception on Thursday, August 3 from 6-8 pm.
Elizabeth Sabine paints images that are at once contemplative and epic. Sabine's latest work revolves around two central themes: views of the ocean and flower still lifes. In painting both seascapes and vases of blossoms, she uses a stripped-down palette and focuses on the subtleties of texture. Her compositions are streamlined to often feature just one graphic line.
Sabine's work toes an interesting line between realism and surrealism. Her still lifes, though marvelously detailed, stand against backgrounds so blank, with lighting so diffuse and impenetrable, that they seem to exist in another dimension. In paring down her ocean views to just a horizon line and a textured sky, she both captures and exaggerates the emptiness of the sea. No ocean has ever been as still as Sabine's vision of it; no vase has ever stood in a room so quiet as Sabine's depiction of interior space.
Sabine was born in Toms River, New Jersey and has since traveled widely in pursuit of inspiration. She has also worked in interior design, visual merchandising, and floral design.

About the Exhibition
Enigmatic Visions
Enigmatic Visions is a new group exhibition from Agora Gallery highlighting a range of exceptionally thoughtful work from eleven contemporary artists. In watercolor, photography, oil, ink, and acrylic, the participants find exciting new ways to create focus. One painter reduces the seascape to a single color, using a palette that is at once strict and infinitely flexible in its endless shades of blue. Another draws all the textural possibilities out of just one kind of brushstroke. A third uses abstraction to surround and isolate his subjects. Enigmatic Visions uses the traditional themes of domesticity, nature, and formal beauty to dive deeper into the details of everyday life.
