In Hartenjagen, drawing from previous game experiences always improves your odds of winning the game.
As with most card games, game experience is invaluable and can lead to better and advance plays, effectively creating better guarantees of winning. In Hartenjagen, advance players are difficult to beat, however, this doesn’t mean that you’re totally helpless against them. There are a number of effective strategies and tactics that can be utilized against an advance player.
One of the worst scenarios that could happen when playing Hartenjagen takes place when your opponent is seemingly able to discern what you have in your hand within the first few turns. Though this natural ability can only be gained after playing numerous games of Hartenjagen, it isn’t impossible. Experienced players can literally play numerous scenarios in their head before playing a card. Doing so ensures they play as efficiently as possible. In a game trick taking card game with only 32 cards like Hartenjagen, such efficiency usually wins games.
The only real way to counter this ability, especially if you’re new to the game, is to keep things basic. Though, the advance player is playing highly efficiently, he or she can never hope to fully account for all the variables involved in game play. So, keep things simple and never put yourself in a precarious position where halfway through the game you would still have your high raking cards in hand.
Another scenario that you might encounter when playing against an advance Hartenjagen player, occurs when they can deplete their high-ranking cards again and again, without any danger of taking hearts. Unlike the first scenario where the advance player focuses on the cards already out on the table, the second focuses mostly on the cards in hand. This is another way of taking advantage of the fact that Hartenjagen uses a deck with only 32 cards.
The only way to counter this is to be as unpredictable as possible. This shifts your opponent’s focus and makes them lose their concentration. Playing aggressively and forcing them to fight on your terms will not only mess up their tactics and game play but it’ll also put you ahead allowing you to deplete high ranking cards quickly. Remember, games aren’t won by game experience alone, in most games it helps but in trick taking card games like Hartenjagen, a sound and simple strategy will always be the key to victory.
