Miscarriages are not unusual and it is very surprising to know that about 50% of the pregnancy which are not identified experience miscarriages. Miscarriage happens when the pregnancy is terminated before it reaches maturity. Most of the miscarriages happen during the first trimester of the pregnancy and it mostly happens for the first-time pregnancy. About 15%-20% of the reported pregnancy experience miscarriages and there are different miscarriage causes. Miscarriages are painful but at times it could not be avoided. Miscarriages could shatter the mothers emotionally and physically and they need careful and tender treatment so that they could come out of this situation fast. Most of the miscarriage causes during the first trimester of the pregnancy happen due to fetus problems-
  • Abnormal chromosome in the fetus- about 50-70% of miscarriages happens due to this abnormality. Sometimes the miscarriages happen recurrently and it could be due to the extra or less piece of chromosome in the fetus.
  • Gene mutation- Genetic mutation happens in the parents so the miscarriages happen
  • The implantation of the egg happens outside the uterus wall which is also called ectopic pregnancy and the situation is life threatening.
There are some other miscarriage  causes which are due to the problem with the mother-
  • Mother is not fit medically and the body immunity is very weak.
  • Any serious injury to the placenta
  • The intra uterine contraceptive device(IUCD) is still inside the vagina
  • Reproductive organs are malformed
  • Long term illness like diabetes, thyroid, kidney problem, heart problem etc.
  • Hormonal imbalance in the mother’s body
  • Fibroids in the uterus
  • There are small fibroids in the ovary or uterus
  • Mother has too much of stress
  • Some symptoms of pregnancy such as morning sickness takes serious forms and needs medical help as the body gets dehydrated
The symptoms of miscarriages are bleeding from the vagina or spotting, severe abdominal pain, discharge from vagina etc. All these symptoms do not always mean miscarriages but these symptoms should be treated seriously and immediate medical help should be taken. Those who have already experienced miscarriage once or more than once need to be careful and should abide by the doctor’s advice to avoid any future complications and to have a healthy child birth.
