Women have come a long and hard way from all the flurry frocks,Women in Business: Suit Time Articles laces, and bonnets. In early centuries when women fought for their equal social rights and the right to vote, they’d scurry along in heavy and fluffy lace-laden attires, be it winter or summer. As the people got civilized, as the women got more empowerment, there came a time to change all the things that dragged these women behind. The pretty but tiresome frills saw their last. Women, who now had jobs as typewriters or secretaries, made their life easy by wearing attractive yet comfortable skirts and blouses. They were the then women’s business suits.

As depicted very well in the completed season of ‘Mad Men’ which is all about the boost that the advertising agencies got in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s, the stenographers and personal secretaries wore amazing women’s business suits in the form of skirts and blouses. The suits garb is all about showing how independent and confident the women have become about what they do and what they want from life.

In the more recent years, the women business suits, a smart combination of pants, shirt and a stylish jacket/coat, have been on a rise. In every profession, women prefer to wear these rakish outfits to the office which not only gives an official look to what they do but are interestingly appealing and comfortable.

Dressing for the occasion is like a habit for women, and even in their jobs, these working ladies have conveniently chosen women’s business suits to help them spend the whole hours from 9 to 5 in a relaxed and appropriate way. As with everything, giving these suits a hype can also be added to the many achievements of the media. There have been many movies, advertisements, series etc. where the actresses have worn women’s business suits to their respective jobs. It not only encouraged the working women to follow them but also helped them in looking stylish instead of boring in the suits. There have been interesting and confident characters of independent working women that have worn suits for an extended length of time in a movie like Sandra Bullock in ‘The Proposal’. Characters like these appeal a lot to women and they tend to follow them.

This gradual change in the women’s attire from incredibly fluffy gowns to women business suits is a pleasant modification. The business suits give women an aura of self confidence. These suits are extremely comfortable and well suited for office environment. There have been trends in fashion that if we now look back at, make us shiver and wonder what brought them. Gladly, women’s business suits aren’t one of them. They have been a fresh change from what working women were generally perceived at. These suits amusingly combined style, comfort and work into a beautiful amalgam which is pleasant to look at and good to wear.  Women in suits, a sight to behold!
