The Original Step: The most Sweat Inducing Work Out At Home
This is the most effective workout that I have found for my home routine. The aerobics section is 40 minutes but there are abdominal and warm up sections that I omit when I am in a hurry. The key to working with DVD instructors is to plan on spending at least 2 weeks memorizing the routine.
This doesn’t mean you will be deliberately memorizing the routine, but that it takes 1 to two weeks for the routine to sink in. I deliberately memorize it because I am always in a hurry to learn a new home routine so I rewind every now and again I want to learn the correct ways to perform the various exercises introduced. Learning the instructor’s method requires that you pay attention his fitness jargon.
Most instructors develop names for exercise moves. Gilad calls one movement ‘knee lift’ and another ‘cabbage patch’ arms. Knowing this is important when moving from segment to segment. The introductory ‘knee lift’ in the beginning routine, might become more advanced in later segments. Keeping up and keeping track requires that you know their workout jargon and understand that they change from instructor to instructor.
Maximize Your Workout
Once you learn the routine, maximize it. You can intensify your workout by making bigger steps, jumping and swapping basic moves with more complex ones found in later segments. For example, most step workout begin with leg curls and tapping the heel or toe. Instead of lightly tapping each time you start your workout, lift higher, or make bigger stronger movements since you are no longer a new student. Don’t just walk across the step, jump, or in the words of Gilad, Come on PROPEL!
Intensify Your Workout
This is the best part. Since the workout is only 40 minutes and like myself you might wonder if it is enough or if you need to do it twice. Well here is the key to really ramping it up weights. You need two kinds, weighted gloves and a weight vest. The basic workout alone will leave you drenched but to challenge the body, you have to expand your home gym with weights you can wear so that your workout continues to be effective.
How To Make Exercise A Longterm Practice
You too can commit to making exercise apart of your life for the long term. That is the goal, not weight loss, not body building, not dieting, it is discipline through commitment. My yoga story
The first time I tried yoga was in 2007 for about 3 or classes. I did not continue because, I did not have a reason to do it beyond wanting to try something new. It was not until 2009 when I did hot yoga free class that I really became interested in it as something of value. I decided to commit to 3 months of classes, 6 days per week and sometimes 7 days.
