Having an eclectic mix of restaurants in the area means that there are bound to be nuances that draw people to some, more than others. One of these elements of dining is portion size, and it is actually more important than you could imagine.

Having an eclectic mix of restaurants in the area means that there are bound to be nuances that draw people to some more than others. In my previous articles I have talked about many a Providence Restaurant. I have discussed everything from service to food quality and even the more subtle things such as the importance of restaurant signage and a good interior. It seems that many people enjoy these articles because I go into more depth about the restaurant experience than the average food writer.

I am going to continue my style of writing very in depth articles by addressing other elements of dining that others may overlook. One of these elements of dining is portion size,Details at a Providence Restaurant Articles and it is actually more important than you could imagine. Different restaurants deliver all sorts of different sized portions without realizing that they may be influencing the degree to which a customer enjoys their meal. I know you must be wondering how something as simple as the size of a portion could deeply affect the rest of the meal. The two reasons are perceived value and level of hunger.

In the first case, if a customer shows up to a fine French bistro expecting a delicious dinner, they are used to getting small portions and paying a lot for them. This may be because fancy meals are often served in many courses however sometimes fancy places simply do not give a person very much food. The thing is, people have come to expect these small portions and they are willing to pay an exorbitant amount for them. If they come in to the same French bistro the next week and receive a heaping plate of filet mignon or caviar, they will come to the conclusion that the food is cheap because many a  Providence Restaurant is able to dish out large portions without affecting their food costs. The other problem with oversized portions is that if people are given enormous appetizers and other pre dinner treats (bread, chips, etc.) they will be too full to truly enjoy their main course when it arrives. Even if they are able to eat it, they will not enjoy it as much as they would have if they were not so full.

The full range of flavors in a given food can only be realized in the midst of satisfying a hunger rather than simply piling on food. While it is easy to get stuck on one side of this issue, it is important that I share the other side as well. Portions that are too small can be equally detrimental to the diner’s experience. This is for the obvious reason that if a person goes out to eat and concludes their meal having paid a full price but leaves without their hunger sated, they will be very disappointed. I can speak truthfully about both sides of this issue because I have experienced both issues on numerous occasions in numerous places. As with so many other things in life, the key to good portioning is balance. The other important part is a good waiter because they can let you know how filling your appetizer will be and alert you about what would be the best portioned meal to follow the appetizer. Thank you for reading another food review. In my next article, I will continue to discuss the many nuances of restaurants in Providence.
