People go to resorts for a variety of reasons. Most people attend them because they received a gift certificate for a day of pampering and relaxation. First time resort visitors often think of these facilities as places to get manicures and pedicures. That is a small portion of the services that are available; some state-of-the-art resorts now offer services such as teeth whitening and hypnotherapy.

There are a few things that you need to know regarding health facility etiquette. There are certain things you can and cannot wear inside a resort. You need to be sure to wear the proper footwear. Some facilities have slippers that they give out to their customers, but just to be on the safe side, it is recommended that you bring a pair of sandals or flip flops with you. Most facilities will not allow you to walk around barefoot. It is also recommended that you arrive about 10 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time. This will give you enough time to get into your robe and begin to relax. Health facilities have changing rooms where you will be given a robe and towels. If you have a preference for a male or female massage therapist, you need to let the staff know when you book your appointment. Be sure to turn your cell phone off during your treatment.

There are things that you can do to prepare for your appointment ahead of time. It is recommended that you are well hydrated prior to and after your appointment, so drink plenty of water. Also, you should not eat for at least 45 to 60 minutes prior to your massage. Some spas do have lockers with locks for you to keep your belongings in, but it is recommended that you leave your valuables at home.

While you are at your appointment, be sure to let the professional know if you experience any pain. It is important that you communicate with the massage therapist about the temperature or the pressure that is being applied. While it is not required, a tip of 15% is usually appropriate.

The most important thing to keep in mind is that you are there to rejuvenate, relax and unwind. If the muscles in your body are tense, it will be hard for you to relax and enjoy yourself. Shut your eyes and imagine yourself at the countryside or beach and let your body experience what it is like to be spoiled.
