Are you suffering from the Side Effects of Insomnia?

An article detailing the common side effects of insomnia

Jen is having some trouble getting through her day. She just can’t seem to concentrate on what’s she is doing. She has deadlines looming and is anxious and worried that she can not get it all done. She has a report due to her boss at noon and can not stay focused on the task. All she can think about is how tired she is and how bad she would like to go home and take a nap. A coworker stops by her desk to ask about the report and she finds herself complaining to her friend. Her friend is concerned because Jen is increasingly irritable. Lack of sleep is really starting to become a problem. What is she going to do?

Jen knows she has a problem – she can’t fall asleep at night. And, boy, is she feeling the side effects of her insomnia! She is tired beyond belief, she can’t keep her mind on a task long enough to get it done, and she finds herself snapping at anyone who comes around. These are all common side effects of insomnia.

Common side effects of insomnia include:

Irritability: We’ve all felt it – a lack of sleep makes us crabby. And multiply that over and over and you can understand why people with insomnia are irritable.

Lack of concentration: People suffering from insomnia often lack the concentration required to do the simplest of tasks. And as insomnia persists, the lack of concentration and sluggishness often increases.

Stress and anxiety: Often one of the causes of insomnia, this can also be a side effect. Not sleeping at night only makes a person worry even more that they are not going to be able to sleep again when they do attempt it. Lying awake and anxious about not getting enough sleep only perpetuates the anxiety. It turns into a vicious circle!

Lack of stamina and physical exhaustion: Your body needs sleep to function properly. And when a body is robbed of restful sleep, it becomes sluggish and tired.
