Your doctor is able to prescribe many treatments for the common complaint of piles,Basic Treatments for Piles Articles and there are also many that you are able to buy over-the-counter at your local pharmacy, but all these medications have one thing in common. They all treat the symptoms of piles but fail when it comes to finding and eradicating the cause.

There has always been differing opinions and theories about the causes of piles, however, there is still a general consensus that a poor diet and lifestyle is the major contributory factor along with more specific causes such as the burdens that pregnancy places upon the body.

There is no denying that medications and treatments bought from your local pharmacy are effective in providing relief from piles but they do not provide anything in the way of preventative treatment. The underlying issue that causes piles in the first place will remain untreated and it will not be long before the piles reappear.  If that is the case and you suffer from piles frequently, you seriously need to consider other forms of treatment that will provide a longer lasting or permanent solution.

Have you ever wondered why the treatments that you buy, or have prescribed for you, never come with a guarantee, a 'no questions asked' guarantee? There is no need to continue wondering, after years of buying different treatments for piles I have never come across a single one that offered such a guarantee!

On top of that, none of those treatments ever offered me an assurance that my piles would never come back again. When you think about it...why would they want to cure my problem when they can easily carry on taking my money, over and over again every time my piles reappeared!

Then there is surgery, so many people suffer so regularly and so severely with piles that they seriously consider surgery as a preventative treatment. The problem is that surgery is extremely painful, intrusive and in quite a number of cases it has made the situation far worse rather than eliminating it, plus surgery, as with topical treatments, only treats the symptoms of piles not the cause so there is no guarantee that your piles would never come back again either.

However, all is not gloom and doom and there are a number of  things that you can do that will help provide some relief from piles until a more permanent solution is found and you should try them all as they will work for most people.

1. Preventative steps...

  •     Include plenty of fruit and vegetables in your diet.
  •     Avoid foods that irritate your bowel, especially spicy foods.
  •     Drinking plenty of water will not only keep you healthy but will ensure your stools remain soft.
  •     Keep your anal area clean.
  •     Wear loose underwear, preferably made of soft cotton.
  •     Diarrhea and constipation should always be treated as soon as possible as they will place unneccessary pressure on your bowel.
2....and if you already have piles...

  •     Use witch hazel on external piles after they, and the area around them, has been cleaned.
  •     Apply zinc cream, aloe vera or petroleum jelly onto external piles.
  •     Take regular warm baths mixed with tea. Tea is an astringent and will help shrink your piles.
