Acne is a skin condition that is quite common problem, and can be associated particularly with young people. This pill consists of ethinylestradiol – synthetic version of oestrogen and cyproterone acetate – an anti-androgenic component with similar properties to progestogen.

Cyproterone acetate works by blocking the androgen receptors in your skin. It also works towards reducing the amount of androgen that is produced by your ovaries. Although Dianette has been proven to be an effective treatment for acne in women, not everyone can take this pill safely. This pill should be avoided if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. You are required to take one Dianette pill for 21 days of your 28 day menstrual cycle. A break of seven days then follows, during which you have withdrawal bleeding, similar to your monthly period. Although this pill has proven effective, it can cause side effects in certain women such as decreased sex drive, headaches, breast tenderness, nausea, weight changes, menstrual spotting, upset stomach or changes in menstrual bleeding.
