Let's get right to it. Lentils are a fabulous food for weight loss. It's overflowing with soluble fiber which helps curb a ravenous appetite and lowers your blood cholesterol.

Purine contents of lentil seeds are on the higher level and the excessive intake of the seeds might result to gout conditions. Consult a physician if you suspect either condition.

In fact, lentil seeds are a cheap protein source. Did you know it only costs usually less than 70 cents for one pound – every starving college student's dream… totally healthier than Ramen noodles, Taco Bell, and PB&J sandwiches. And if you super tight on budget, you can add lentils to beef when you cook and prepare your meals to "stretch" the meat out.  That's right! Make your burgers, meatloaf, and sloppy joes much leaner with lentils. Lower in calories and you get to cut cost at the same time? And guess what you can even stock up on lentils and it won't go bad; it can usually last up to one year without refrigeration.   You can find lentils anywhere you food shop; going to a specific health food store really isn't necessary.  What's not to love about lentils?

How do you eat lentils? Stupid question you might say but let me know tell you, do not eat lentils raw. Phytic acid and tannins are anti-nutrients which are in the lentil seeds; your really don't want to ingest that. The preparation of lentil seeds is easy and quick. Some types of lentil seeds do need you to overnight soaked before cooking. However, most don't require the pre-soaking, just boil over a stove top or put in the microwave. Ten to thirty minutes is really all it takes for cooking time; however it depends on the variety of the lentil seeds.  And what's great is that when you cook lentils with other foods, it quickly absorbs the flavors from the other food making it that much tastier.
