Siddha Home Remedies Using Fenugreek

Fenugreek is well known from time immemorial for its medicinal value. Siddha medicinal system has a number of home remedies that utilises the medicinal properties of fenugreek. This article details the medicinal properties of fenugreek as well as elaborates a simple home remedy for stomach ache using fenugreek.

Fenugreek has been well known from time immemorial for its medicinal properties.  No wonder there are excellent home remedies using fenugreek seeds in the Siddha system of medicine. 

According to some Siddha texts,Siddha Home Remedies Using Fenugreek Articles fenugreek stops diarrhea, cures hemorrhoids, cures bad breath, soothes itching, cools the eyes, arrests hair fall, cures inflammation, cures cough, cures ulcers… the list goes on.

Fenugreek is used as a digestive aid. Nursing mothers use fenugreek remedies to increase inadequate breast milk supply. Some studies have shown that fenugreek is a stimulator of breast milk production and it can increase milk production three to four times.

Fenugreek has a somewhat bitter taste.

Recent research has shown fenugreek to protect against cancers of the breast. The liver protecting property of fenugreek is well known.

Given below is a time-tested Siddha home remedy for stomach ache using fenugreek.

Ingredients

Fenugreek – 50 gm
Cardamom seeds – 15 gm
Palm candy – 150 gm

Fenugreek seeds are washed thoroughly and dried in shade.  Pour lemon juice 300 ml in an earthen pot and put the dried fenugreek into it.  Now heat the pot.  Reduce the juice to half.  Now remove from heat and let it cool.  Filter out the seeds and dry it in shade.  When dried, the seeds are ground to a coarse consistency.

Likewise, the cardamom seeds are cleaned thoroughly and dried in shade. Once dried, the cardamom seeds are fried slightly over fire.  The seeds are then powdered.  Add this to the fenugreek powder  Add palm candy to this mixture.

How to Use

Take a spoonful of the powder with a glass of warm water in the morning an hour before breakfast.  Adapt the same procedure in the afternoon and night.

Things to Avoid

Oily food stuff, Groundnuts, meat etc should be avoided. Do not wander in hot sun. Avoid excessive sexual indulgence.

Preferred Diet

Leafy fibrous vegetables, buttermilk, pepper, pomegranate, banana, orange etc can be taken in plenty.
