Glass Wall Tiles: Delicate beautification

Glass wall tiles used to be off limits as flooring materials for most people even a few years ago. But, with the advent of new and advanced technology, the situation is changing with each passing day. Glass tiles are now like a style statement, which when used in a room, can add a stunning effect to otherwise mundane looking rooms.

Glass tiles are delicate. There’s no denying this obvious truth. Glass tiles are far more susceptible to chipping, cracking or even shattering than any other kind of tile. But, if used in the correct positions, glass tiles can create a magical ambience. Let us suppose a person has a sound system in one of his rooms. A few rows of metallic glass tiles (tiles made of special kind of glass that has some metallic powder mixed with it) on the wall behind the music system will add a new definition to the look of the entire room. Another magical place would be the wall around the fireplace. This should be done while maintaining safe distance from the fireplace itself, so that home safety laws are not violated. The tiles can thus be placed all around the fireplace, and may also extend to the floor or the ceiling. When the fireplace is lit up in winter, the entire room will look gorgeous, due to the reflection on all the tiles.

Glass tiles can be installed either on a concrete base, or over a layer of other ceramic or stone tiles. Although made of glass, these tiles are often specially made to make them heat resistant. The metallic glass tiles have copper, zinc, or other metallic powders mixed with the glass. Thus they look great and can be bought in appropriate colors so as to match the décor of the room.

Glass tiles are available in various sizes, from the small ½” x ½” tiles to the large 12” x 12” size. Thus these can be used to create decorative artworks on walls or floors as well. Artists can play around with glass tiles; they can create a flower on the ceiling, or an entire portrait on the walls.

Glass tiles are a tad more expensive than regular tiles. But the definition they can add to a room is certainly worth the price. These tiles should not be installed by a novice though. Only a trained professional can install these tiles properly and safely, in order to create that magical ‘wow’ effect in a room.
