Know the different types of tiles out in the market today. Choose the right one for your home or office.

It quickly spreads from Greece, Asia, and then Italy. During the Islamic period, Persia perfected all methods of tile decoration. There are different types of tiles that are commonly found from residential to commercial areas.

Roof Tiles
Roof tiles are designed to keep rain from coming in our house. They are made up of clay, slate, concrete, or plastic. There are different style and shapes being manufactured like flat tiles, imbrex and tegula, roman tiles, pantiles, and barrel or mission tiles.

Ceiling Tiles
Ceiling tiles are commonly used in the buildings interior because they are made up of lightweight material. Usually, they are placed on a steel grid. Most ceiling tiles provide thermal insulation and sound proofing. They offer easy access to plumbing and electrical wiring for changing, removing, and installation.

The materials include perlite, wood, wool, plastic, tin, aluminum, and fibers. Some ceiling tiles have a decorative surface. Thus, you do not have to worry about the decors of your office or building.

Types of Ceiling Tiles
1. Acoustical Ceiling Tiles
    - Good for sound proofing and noise reduction of a room.
    - Recommended use is in bedrooms and play rooms.
2. Tin Ceiling Tiles
    - An early form of eco-friendly tiles.
    - Manufactured from different materials: tin, brass, copper, and steel.
3. Suspended Ceiling Tiles
    - It is used when you want to lower a ceiling.
    - They are suspended in wire grids.
    - Materials can vary from tin, wood, metal, and mirror.
    - This type of tile is easy to replace.
4. Plastic Ceiling Tiles
    - Gives extra insulation in the house.
    - They are lighter and easy to paint.
5. Cork Ceiling Tiles
    - Cork is the most popular eco-friendly material.
    - It is lightweight and has a great resistance to rot.
    - When left in their natural state, they are fire resistant.
    - Low in maintenance, easy to install, and you can choose from its variety of  thickness.

Floor Tiles
Floor tiles are mostly made up of porcelain, ceramic, stone, and glass. Stone tiles that have no grooves are safety hazards because they can become very slippery when wet. Examples of this are polished granite and marble.

Types of Floor Tiles
1. Marble Floor Tiles
    - Very durable and easy to clean.
2. Terrazzo Floor Tiles
    - A floor tile made up of clay.
    - Colors may vary according to the clay used.
3. Porcelain Floor Tiles
    - A ceramic tile.
    - Extremely hard and more expensive than any clay variety.
4. Vinyl Floor Tiles
    - Can mimic other types of tiles.
    - Cheap and easy to install.
5. Linoleum Floor Tiles
    - Made up of natural tiles.
    - No toxins and mildly anti bacterial.
6. Quarry Tiles
    - Made from clay or shale.
    - They are very durable.
7. Glazed Tiles
    - Another type of ceramic tiles.
    - This tiles are waterproof and easy to clean.

There are many patterns, colors, and shapes of tiles available in the market today. It is really recommended that you plan what type of tiles you are going to use. Keep in mind the theme of your house or office decorations so that your tiles will not clash with the theme.
