Rodents can cause all sorts of destruction to your home.  They are known to chew on furniture.  They will also chew on wiring they come across which will dramatically increase the risk of a fire developing in your home.

As the winter months approach rodents become even more of a problem as they seek out warm shelter.  Therefore,Successful Rodent Control Starts with a Plan Articles you will need to do everything required in order to keep them outside your home where they belong.  In order to keep them out effectively though you will need to come up with a plan.

It is best for you to start by inspecting the exterior of your home.  Small rodents such as mice and rats can enter into small openings in your foundation or walls.  You should walk around the exterior and see if you find any of these openings.  If you do, then plug them immediately.

You will probably not want to use wood or putty to fill the cracks since rodents can easily chew through them.  Using metal or concrete is your best chance of keeping them out.

You can also place bait boxes around the foundation of your home.  Even if there are openings, rodents may be lured to the bait boxes instead.  You should place two or three of these boxes on each side of your home.

As far as trapping rodents which happen to get into your home; you should consider using glue boards.  Rodents will get trapped whenever they try to cross them.  These glue boards should be placed against walls and baseboards since rodents typically travel along them.  Placing glue boards inside a small tunnel will also work wonders.

Another effective way to keep rodents under control is to use a sonic repellent.  One of these devices will produce noise which drives most rodents away.  Fortunately, any pets you have around the home will not be subjected to the noise.

Of course you can use traditional methods to try to keep your rodent population under control.  Mechanical traps are highly effective as long as you bait them properly as well as put them in the right locations.

The best method of rodent control is to call an exterminator.  One of these professionals will come and inspect and then treat your home on a periodic basis so you do not need to worry about rodents entering your home.  It is well worth the money to prevent possibly expensive repairs in the future.
