How You Can Increase Traffic to Your Website with Google AdWords

Without question, your purpose for managing a Google AdWords campaign is to increase website traffic and to achieve some kind of conversion, such as a product sale.  Google AdWords is generally effective because it enables you to show ads for your products or services at the exact moment someone searches for your products or services.  Thus, with AdWords, you're marketing to a captive audience because you know users are searching for what you’re selling at that very moment.

Fundamentally, you can increase traffic to your website with Google AdWords by adhering to a couple of important rules:

* Choose the right keywords

* Write compelling ad copy

* Outbid your competition

If you’ve carefully chosen all the popular keywords that are specific and relevant to your products and services, your ads will trigger whenever someone searches those keywords.  If you've outbid your competition, you'll likely increase your ad exposure.  If you’ve written compelling ad copy that highlights the keywords being searched, you stand a good chance that someone will click on your ad and be transported to your website.  This is fundamentally how Google AdWords increases website traffic.

To find the best keywords for your ad campaigns, start with the specific product or service you are offering.  You can then use the Google Keyword Tool to help you search for variations on that product or service which you can use as your own keywords.  The Google Keyword Tool will show you not only dozens of variations on your keywords, but also how often each keyword gets searched.  Naturally, you’ll want to choose relevant keywords that are commonly searched.  Make sure you consider the various ways someone might be searching your product or service, including slang, idioms, colloquialisms and alternate grammar.

To write winning ad copy for your Google ads, you'll need to include:  1) a headline that captures attention and includes the keywords, 2) description lines that accurately describe and emotionally amplify your product features and benefits, 3) a straightforward and assertive call to action, and 4) a landing page URL that is relevant to the product or service in the ad.

To get the winning bid in Google AdWords, you must bid a higher amount than your competition and maintain a higher quality score.  Google AdWords uses a bidding system to determine which ads get placed, where they get placed on each page, and how much they cost when clicked.  The bidding system is based in part by raw numbers:  higher bids take precedence over lower bids.  However, since Google strives to provide relevant search results, Google tries to make sure the most relevant ads are placed for each keyword searched.  So, when Google determines which ads run where and for how much, they use a combination of bid and quality score.  Thus, sometimes a lower bid will trump a higher bid if its keyword quality score is higher.
