To be successful with AdWords, good ad placement in the Google search engine is critical.  The reason being, whenever your eligible keywords are searched, your ads are ranked in comparison with all other ads triggered by those keywords.  So to get users to see and click on your ads, you need to get a high ad rank, meaning you want your ads placed as near the top of the first page search results as possible.  If you're not getting a high ad rank, then obviously you'll need to take immediate action to increase your ad rank.

When you create ads in Google AdWords, Google uses a number of calculations to determine the quality and relevance of your ads.  Google then compares your ad to your competitors and ranks them using a combination of keyword quality score and bid.  Higher ranking ads get more frequent placements and appear higher on web pages.

There are a number of things you can do now to increase your ad rank in Google AdWords, including:

* Increase your bid

* Improve your ad copy

* Improve your website landing page copy

* Choose more relevant keywords

First, to increase ad rank you need to take a look at your bids.  If your bids are lower than your competition, you’re probably not going to achieve a higher ad ranking.  Check the Google AdWords campaign manager to see if your bids are below the first page bid estimate for each keyword; and if they are, consider raising your bids.

Secondly, you may just need better ad copy.  Ad copy is one of the factors that help determine your keyword relevance, which in turn affects your ad placement.  Some good tips for creating ads in Google AdWords include:  1) a headline that captures attention and includes the keywords, 2) description lines that accurately describe and emotionally amplify your product features and benefits, 3) a straightforward and assertive call to action, and 4) a landing page URL that is relevant to the product or service in the ad.

Thirdly, make sure your website landing page is search engine optimized.  With proper SEO, your website landing page will contain all the keywords you use in your Google AdWords campaign, which will improve each keyword quality score and your ad ranking.

Fourthly, you first need to focus on choosing better keywords.  The best keywords for Google AdWords are keywords that are most relevant to the products or services featured in your Google ad.  You should include all popular variations of those keywords to match the multitude of ways people search for your products or services, including slang, idioms, colloquialisms and alternate grammar.  The Google keyword tool will show you not only dozens of variations on your keywords, but also how often each keyword gets searched.  Naturally, you’ll want to choose relevant keywords that are commonly searched.

So take a moment now and think about how you might increase your ad rank through better keywords, a higher bid, improving your ad copy or writing better copy on your website.  By achieving a better ad rank, you'll get many more users seeing your ads.  With more eyeballs on your adsPsychology Articles, your click-through rate should gradually improve.
