Gemstone cabochons look as attractive as faceted gemstones. There is more variety and patterns available in the cabochon cut than original gemstones. Gemstone cabochons are mostly oval, How to Make Your Very Own Pendant with Striking Gemstone Cabochons Articles convex in shape. The top surface is raised with a usually flat bottom. Backside of cabochon cut stone is also flat and unpolished. Gemstones that have less clarity and luster are usually cut in cabochons. They are smooth and slightly raised at the center. They are polished to bring out the natural inclusions and designs. Many gemstone cabochons have a natural cat’s eye or a start design. Due to their simple cut they easily fit into a pendent setting.
How to make gemstone cabochons pendant
Firstly, think of the type of stone you want to use to make a cabochon pendent. Then choose the color and size you want the pendent to be. While choosing a cabochon cut gemstone, see if it is calibrated. This means, the length, width and height of the stone is almost the same. Calibrated stones snugly fit into metal pendants leaving no space for fallouts. The free form gemstone cabochons are best to work with wirework as they can be manipulated.

First, determine the length of the string. Make sure you choose a gauge string that is broader than the gemstone cabochons rim size, else the stone would slip out. Put is around your neck like a necklace and see how long the length should be. Measure it with a ruler and leave about seven to ten inches extra for wrapping around the gemstone cabochons.
Then measure the top, bottom and center of the gemstone cabochons with a tape, use the same extra wire we left earlier.
Take about 2-inch wire and twist it into three wraps with help of a plier. The wraps should look like a swirled telephone cord.
Take the wire used to measure the gemstone, hold it in a shape of a diamond and mark the bends that will appear in a diamond (pyramid) shape. After marking the bends, insert the wrap in the bottom center of the wire and with the help of a nose plier bend the marked areas.
Once the bend turns out in a pyramid shape, it will have two open-ended strings, which should be tied in a knot at the tip of the pyramid using a separate wire. Then clip the ends of the two open wires and attach a hook on one side and eye on the other.
Lastly, apply adhesive to the gemstone and fix it inside the pendant. There you have an easy and quickly made gemstone cabochons pendant.
