One of the hardest things about having a whiplash, it is getting to make your family and friends understand what it means to have a whiplash. There are 2 major reasons for which one should not exist in the world today but they unfortunately do.
One of the hardest things about
having a whiplash, it is getting to make your family and friends understand
what it means to have a whiplash.
There are 2 major reasons for
which one should not exist in the world today but they unfortunately do.
Being able to understand what a
whiplash is and the consequences of having one, is really hard for many to
comprehend because whiplash is not something you when looking at the whiplash injured.
The "only thing" you
can see is a person who is tired, lethargic, a person who is feeling ill and that is precisely what makes it difficult
for many to understand.
The best that could happen to a
whiplash injured is that besides having a whiplash, is having a second physical
damage that can be seen. It sounds ludicrous, but people need something they
can see before they can understand it.!
It also means that as a whiplash
injured in the beginning uses a lot of energy on defense, not only against the
municipality and insurance but also his or her friends and family. And this is where you as the
whiplash injured must choose your battles, because there are people like you
canīt convince that having a whiplash injury has big consequences. The reason I say you must choose
your battles, is for one simple reason that there are people also in your
immediate circle of friends and family who will not accept that you can be as injured
as you say when your whiplash isnīt something they can see.
This is due not so much to bigotry
as itīs due to lack of knowledge.
The lack of knowledge is unfortunately
not due to lack of education as itīs a result of prejudices from those that should help.!
We still here in 2011, have doctors who refuses to accept that whiplash is a physical injury and not a psychic injury.!
This means that these doctors who are employed by municipalities and in the public system or by insurance companies is deliberately working against the recognition of whiplash and the impact that
it has on a person. And this is where the battles must be fought, because if we
donīt stop these so called doctors, there will still be spread by prejudice rather than knowledge which in turn will unfortunately be a part
of the factors that make it hard for your family and friends to understand the consequences you wrestle with every day..
